PHP Socket Tutorial Part 1

July 28, 2006

I always want to try and write great tutorials but damn I'm wordy. I'm aiming to write the defacto papers on PHP Socket Programming however I'm 8 pages in already and all I have is a basic socket server implemented :)
Anyway, here is a link to Part I on my socket programming tutorial. This page is really aimed at getting you up to speed on what socket programming is all about and what all the commands refer to and what the parameters they take are geared to do. I'm planning on adding a section a week so we'll see how that goes.
Enjoy

Wordy you may be, but that suits me if it is comprehendible. It is. Cant wait for the next episode. "It might be a port to you , but its a socket to me!" (Cue bucket of water thrown over Goldie Hawn. Rowan and Martins Laugh-in anyone?)

I liked it.When are you going to make another part? P.S. I'm making a php proxy with sockets and I need to know how I can get the requested URL? As in when the browser forward’s the request for sites to the proxy how can I get what the requested URL is?

write a BAT file with something like: "C:\apache2triad\php\bin\php.exe" "C:\apache2triad\htdocs\test_socket_server.php" pause -- the first parameter is where is your php and the second is the file you wish to run. save as something.bat and double click to run it.

C'mon, continue with it! It's such a good and useful read, it'd be a pity if it vanishes into the nothing.

I'm also waiting for part II. Maybe you'll come up with something like LastFMProxy but in php instead of python.
